An introduction to the shooting sports for women

NRA Women On Target Instructional Shooting Clinic is designed to introduce women to the shooting sports. If women are curious about firearms, whether for personal defense or to learn a new sport, Women On Target® is the perfect place to start.

These instructional shooting clinics are designed to teach you firearm safety and the fundamentals of marksmanship, giving you the confidence you need to safely handle and operate a firearm upon completion.

Women will have the experience of shooting pistols, revolvers, rifles and shotguns.

Women On Target® clinics are available only to women — it’s a safe and friendly environment whether you’re picking up a gun for the very first time or are just brushing off some dust and need a little refresher. You will immediately feel at ease, and will be provided with a hands-on, one-of-a-kind experience.

Lunch is provided during the program.

No experience or equipment is necessary to participate. You will have a one to one coach/instructor at your side.

We provide everything; handguns, rifles, shotguns and ammunition. We have eye and ear protection or you can bring your own.

NO FIREARMS OR AMMUNITION ARE ALLOWED IN THE CLASSROOM. THIS INCLUDES CCW and LEO. NO EXCEPTIONS! Leave your firearm and ammunition secured in your locked vehicle.

FYI – California law requires you to transport your firearm in a locked case.

NRA Basics of Rifle Shooting Class

This class includes classroom and range time with a rifle

The goal of NRA’S Basics of Rifle Shooting is to develop the knowledge, skills and attitude for owning and operating a rifle safely.

You will learn

  • You will learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling, rifle parts and operation, ammunition, shooting fundamentals, range rules, shooting from different positions, and cleaning and proper storage of your rifle.

Students will receive the NRA Basics of Rifle Shooting book, NRA Safety Rules card, and the NRA Marksmanship booklet.

Upon successful completion, students will receive an NRA Basics Of Rifle Shooting certificate.

Required Supplies:

  • A Rifle
  • A minimum of 100 rounds of factory new ammunition for your rifle, (No reloads or steel core)
  • Eye & Ear Protection (Electronic preferred)
  • Pencil, Pen, Highlighter, Note pad

Attire

  • Closed toe shoes are required
  • No scoop neck or V-neck shirts allowed. A crew neck t-shirt is ideal.

PLEASE BRING A SACK LUNCH. There is not enough time to leave during lunch. We have bottled water available and sodas and snacks for $1.00 each. We have a microwave available.

THERE IS NO AMMUNITION ALLOWED IN THE CLASSROOM – Please leave your firearm and ammunition secured in your locked vehicle until instructed to retrieve them.

NRA Basics of Shotgun Shooting Class – 2 DAY CLASS (08/20/26 ) & (08/22/26)

NRA Basics of Shotgun Shooting Class

This is a 2-Part Class. You must attend both days.

Thursday Night 6pm-10pm -Saturday 8am – 6pm

This course is taught by NRA Certified Instructors and includes classroom and range time. You will learn how to shoot shotguns at a moving target. Students learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling, shotgun parts and operation, shotgun shell components, malfunctions, shooting fundamentals, care and cleaning of your shotgun.

Students will receive the NRA Basics of Shotgun Shooting textbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules card, NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet.

You will receive an NRA Basics of Shotgun Shooting certificate at successful completion of this course.

Required Equipment:

  • Shotgun
  • 4 boxes of shotgun shells in 7.5 or 8 for your shotgun (No reloads)
  • Eye & Ear Protection
  • Notepad, Pen & Pencil

Loaner shotguns are available. If you would like to use a loaner shotgun or have further questions please contact the Training Team at avgctraining@gmail.com.

These instructional shooting clinics are designed to teach you firearm safety and the fundamentals of marksmanship, giving you the confidence you need to safely handle and operate a firearm upon completion. You will have the experience of shooting handguns, revolvers, rifles and shotguns.

Defensive Shotgun Class

The Defensive Shotgun Class includes classroom instruction and live fire exercises on the range.

AVGC Members there is no discount for this class as it is already greatly discounted.

The shotgun is one of the most effective and versatile weapons available to for self-defense. It is also the least understood and most under-utilized weapon system.

You will learn how to carefully select, feed and operate the defensive shotgun for optimum effectiveness.

This intensive one-day course will teach you efficient techniques for handling and shooting the shotgun under stressful conditions.

This is an advanced course. You must have taken the NRA Basics of Shotgun Shooting class.

Topics Covered Include

  • Firearm safety
  • Defensive mindset & use of force
  • Selection of the defensive shotgun
  • Ammunition selection and capabilities
  • Patterning for optimum performance
  • Nomenclature and mechanical operation
  • Shooting technique & recoil management
  • Loading/reloading & malfunction skills
  • Safe storage and access considerations
  • Care and maintenance

Required Equipment

  • Defensive Shotgun
  • Eye & Ear protection
  • Shell bag – Or some method for keeping roughly 25 shells on your person at any one time, preferably with a dump pouch or shell pouch that can be worn on the belt.
  • Ammunition – Minimum of 50 rounds of LEAD birdshot (#4 or #6 Shot), 25 rounds of buckshot, plus an additional 10 rounds of good quality buckshot you would consider for personal/home defense.
  • Pen & paper for note taking
